Animal Assisted Play Therapy

Here at Shine Play Therapy we can also offer Animal Assisted Play Therapy if the circumstances allow for it i.e. we have an animal available and willing or if it is suited to the individual client which the therapist decides upon.

Animal Assisted Play Therapy (AAPT) is an integrated approach to psychotherapy and education that combines the principles of play therapy with animal-assisted therapy. Play and playfulness are the primary methods for clients to express feelings, build relationships, and resolve psychosocial issues, with an emphasis on the reciprocal relationship between the client, therapist, and animal.

It is valuable in helping children, adolescents, and adults, and can be provided for individuals, groups, and families.
